Notarized bill of sale maryland6/24/2023 ![]() In PA you can go to a public notary, who then submits the documents to the DMV you don't deal directly with the DMV. I wonder if I can submit/receive it online (faster.)?Īs far as titling the vehicle, I called around today and got varying answers. I'll definitely check out that title history, thanks. I just thought it was odd since in PA you have to have signatures notarized and everything seems more formal. He did say that's the way they do things in MD. issued ID to make sure you have his correct info. Since most used car sales are AS-IS anyways, there's not much more risk in dealing with a hobby dealer except if you find the title isn't clear (lien or somesuch). The seller is skirting the law, but this may or may not have any impact on the condition or sale of the car-you shouldn't have any issues titling the car in PA, unless PA requires a bill of sale with names/signatures that match those on the title.ĮTA-my only caution would be to make sure you take a good look at the car, and ask to see the guy's ID so you can copy down his name and contact info in case you ever need to contact him. Naturally, having a car re-titled when a curbstoner buys a car will not only cut into their profits, but will set off flags at the dmv. Google the term "curbstoning", it's a practice where a private party is basically flipping cars for profit but attempting to avoid the required licensing fees to be a dealer. Bottom line is that I'm wondering if this sounds reasonable for MD? Anyone else have a similar experience? I'd like to just take Mary's title to a PA notary and transfer it over into my name. John said if he needed to, he would transfer the title to his name and then sign it over to me, but that may take an extra week or two. John appears rather trustworthy, says he has sold numerous Miatas this way, and even has a couple of Miatas of his own. ![]() I have seen/driven the car, the title is in Mary's name, and she signed it on the reverse side. John said in MD it is normal for people to not transfer the title once they purchase the car. John says he bought the car from a friend that actually bought it from Mary (not sure when this all happened). I'm not sure if this is in the proper forum, so I apologize if it's not.Īnyway, I live in PA and am planning on buying an old Miata that is currently titled in MD from seller 'John.' The catch here is the title is in 'Mary's' name and not John's.
